The Little Black Dress
French women know how to pull off a last minute cocktail ensemble. They always have that perfect go-to outfit that fits for any occasion. Their secret? The Little Black Dress! Coco Chanel is credited with bringing the idea to mind when she said that every woman needs a black dress in their closet for any occasion.
“I own too much black” said no one ever.
The black dress whether formal or flirty, simple or statement, casual or cocktail, should be an item in everyone’s closet. The key to achieving French girl style is to have at least one dress that fits you and makes you feel fabulous. This must-have dress is one that you can style up or down and wear with your fanciest red sole shoes when you are out with friends having cocktails, or with a pair of white tennis shoes when you are on an all day shopping mission in Paris.
Be sure to find a dress that fits your body type, made in the material that makes you feel your best, then style it for almost every occasion. Ponte knit, tropical weight wool, wrinkle-free cotton or crepe are all easy care fabrics to look for. From full sleeve to sleeveless, mini to midi, look for the style that suits your body type and your personality and have it fit to your body type. You can style appropriately to wear on several different occasions. Changing the look of the dress is simple with a pop of color in a blazer, a scarf or a handbag. Leopard boots, or anything leopard for that matter, make a great accent to a little black dress. Add a belt, hosiery, or jewelry to dress up or down depending on the situation – or just for fun!
“The Little Black Dress: From Chanel’s Ford to Tom Ford” held at The Veranda at Buckhead Village was a special fashion presentation of black dresses from the past 100 years. The event explored fashion through the decades and discussed the influences on the fashion industry over the years. In the style of the grand fashion houses of the mid twentieth century a live fashion show was presented from a private collection of these very dresses. It was an experience not to be missed!
Hidden Gems with Grace presented The Little Black Dress experience on November 7th at the Veranda in Buckhead Village. An exclusive event (only 20 tickets were available), each guest was treated to a VIP experience including a gift bag with fabulous swag. Black dress was not required but encouraged!
No matter what your black dress, find the outfit you feel the best in and reserve it for those events where you want to have the cool girl French attitude!
