SCAD FASHION 2021

The Savannah College of Art and Design continues to innovate higher education with the SCAD FASHION 2021 Experience, a virtual showcase of top senior and graduate student collections. The standout signature event invited global audiences to witness the future of the fashion industry as SCAD transcended the runway with cross-disciplinary, multimedia collaborations featuring designs by more than 120 fashion, jewelry, and accessory design students and alumni in SCAD’s award-winning School of Fashion. The supersensory showcase debuted the brave new voices in fashion highlighting student collections that engaged themes of inclusion, sustainability, upcycling and more.

Filmed by the university’s production team using resources at Savannah Film Studios, the collections were rendered by professional partners in digital worlds conceptualized by SCAD motion media design students and alumni, with production support by sound design and film and television students and alumni. The collaboration highlights the university’s cross-disciplinary approach to curriculum and expertise in professional preparation.

SCAD FASHION 2021 Experience also featured “The Awakening”, a fashion film directed by SCAD alum Jess Farran, an accomplished photographer and filmmaker, editorializes select student and alumni garments, jewelry, and accessories in an otherworldly tale of conscious connection and the creative impulse. The film follows a celestial protagonist as she awakens alone in a strange world and encounters a landscape of garments that spark memories of her family and friends. The high-concept fashion film offers a hopeful message of conscious connection and creative awakening.

This marks the second innovative virtual event to highlight SCAD’s School of Fashion graduates. In Winter 2020 the university debuted the social-first film “Fashion in Frame”, providing international exposure for 2020 alumni. SCAD’s globally ranked and recognized School of Fashion has graduated more than 5,600 alumni from fashion-related programs, including fashion, fashion marketing and management, accessory design, fibers, jewelry, and luxury and fashion management. Graduates have gone on to work at prestigious companies, including Ralph Lauren, Chanel, Louis Vuitton, Marc Jacobs, Michael Kors, Diane von Furstenberg, Saks Fifth Avenue, Kate Spade, and Neiman Marcus.
