Actor, Activist, Restaurateur
Mitchell Anderson, born in Jamestown, NY, is a graduate of Williams College, where he majored in theatre. He attended The Juilliard School before setting off on a nearly 20-year acting career, which included roles on Doogie Howser, MD; Party of Five; Jaws, The Revenge; The Karen Carpenter Story. He is currently starring in the Amazon Prime digital series, After Forever, for which he was nominated for a 2019 Emmy Award. He began his second career in 2002 as a chef in Atlanta, apprenticing in the kitchen of Souper Jenny, an Atlanta institution.
Anderson opened MetroFresh in Midtown Atlanta in October of 2005 with the notion that fresh, healthy, creative food should not be out of reach for the casual diner. The menu of healthy breakfast, soups, salads and dinner entrees changes daily and features flavors from all over the world. For 15 years, MetroFresh has been a staple of the Midtown Atlanta dining scene where many of his regular customers visit multiple times a week – sometimes more than once a day. The second location, MetroFresh Uptown, opened in August of 2019.
Anderson’s self-published cookbook entitled Food and Thought, was released in October 2015. It is a collection of recipes from the MetroFresh menu as well as excerpts from Mitchell Anderson’s daily blog, which he began writing when the restaurant opened 15 years ago. The cookbook is available for sale on the website www.metrofreshatl.com.
